Banks Reserve to AP Hinds Reserve return

This section takes in a great section of the Swan River including Maylands Golf Course, Tranby House and Ascot Waters. The return section makes its way through the Ascot Waters canals section which is inaccessible to powered craft.


Warning: This area of the river is frequented by recreational boats and covers the Belmont Water ski area. There is no speed limit in the area between Wyndham Bridge and Belmont Water Ski area.


Garrett Rd Bridge to Barkers Bridge return

A much paddled section of the Swan River, this section forms a great stretch to base your Avon kilometres training over. This section takes in the final stretch of the Avon Descent and a section that you will take great pleasure in arriving at, each time you race in August.

This section is used by many past Avon Descent Winners, as is frequented by our south of the river paddlers.
Whilst the first stretch from Deep Water Point, to Salter Point, and Leach Hwy, is relatively open water, the river then narrows beyond Shelley Bridge as it winds its way through a gauntlet of sheoaks up towards Kent St Weir.


Warning: This area of river covers some of Perth’s busiest water ski areas (Deep Water Point), and so paddlers should exercise caution in crossing, or avoid these areas.


Canning Bridge to The Narrows Bridge return

This section doubles as a great shallow training paddle, which may serve as appropriate preparation for Day 1 Avon Descent. This section follows the side of the Mitchell Fwy to the Narrows.


Warning: Some underwater hazards do exist in this area. The final section of the river before the Narrows covers a designated jet ski area. Paddlers should exercise caution in the area.

This section of the Swan is often calm and absent from powerboats making it ideal for a long steady or technical paddle. There is also an great paddle up towards Upper Swan Bridge.

This section incorporates the Upper Swan Ti Trees. Novice or inexperienced paddlers are strongly recommended to paddle with an experienced paddler or group for this section.
